Italy trip 2017 Sardinia (Cagliari) and Tuscany (Carrara)

Twinning project between Metropolitan International school of Miami & Scuola Secondaria Alfieri – Conservatorio di Cagliari.

Itinerary

CAGLIARI & CARRARA

6th May 2017 Saturday – 17:30 meeting at the International Airport of Miami
20:40 departure

7th May 2017 Sunday – 16 :00 arrive in Cagliari: meeting students and families 2E (Italian middle school) Dinner and accommodation with the Italian host families / or hotel.

8th May Monday – 8:30 meeting at Scuola Media Alfieri with students and teachers of 2E
Transport to Sports Day Venue (windsurfing, surfing, laser, beach tennis, and kite surfing)
1:00 lunch
4:00 Meeting with the Mayor of Cagliari and local authorities

9th May Tuesday – 7:40 meeting at school. Visit to Nora archaeological site (ancient Roman and pre-Roman town). Chia (Baia di Chia, one of the best beaches of south Sardinia with its sands dunes). Walking & horse back riding activities in the afternoon.

10th May Wednesday – 8:00 departure for the two days field trip around Sardinia (Santa Giusta Abbey, the sacred wells – Nuragic archaelogical sites, Domus de Janas Sant’ Andrea Priu, necropolis, Saccargia Abbey – Codrongianos)
Dinner with host families/or in hotel

11th May Thursday – 8:30 meeting at school
9:00 Field trip around Sardinia (Monte d’ Accodi, The Prenuragic, Nuraghe Sa tu Antine Torralba, Luch at Agriturismo. Visit to the Villasanta Castle – Sanluri

12th May Friday – Visit to the city of Cagliari ( sightseeing, monuments, and town, visit to the National Archaeological Museum, Walking around the medieval town in Cagliari, Castello, Ghetto degli Ebrei, Elephant Tower, San Remy Bastione, Boyle Palace, Porta dei Leoni, Visit to the ancient site of Tuvixeddu.

13th & 14th May Saturday & Sunday – Monumenti Aperti : a cultural event where the most beautiful monuments and archeological sites open their doors to visitors who come from everywhere in Italy and from different countries. The school Alfieri takes part to this event with students who give tours to the visitors. Met students will be prepared and instructed to offer guidance and tours to the different monuments offering their linguistics expertise in Spanish and English, they will stay side by side with their Italian friends. This initiative would be performed for the first time in the 21st edition of Monumenti Aperti. Students will take turns and during their free time they will enjoy the city with their host families and friends or they will enjoy the other monuments in small groups organized with the Italian teachers and Met teachers.

The monuments assigned them are: Exmà, cultural center, San Lucifero church

The students will also be involved in a project called “piccoli reporters”. They will have a special pass to to go and visit all the monuments, they will take videos, photos with their mobiles or cameras and at the end of Monumenti Aperti 2017 edition will offer their views and experiences.

15th – 18th May Monday – Wednesday

Visit Carrara/ White marble mountains, Oriano Galloni’s Atelier, Boat trip to Cinque Terre, Guided tour in Rome
