Every Thanksgiving our principal, Ines Lozano, takes student volunteers to Haiti with her non-profit organization Flying High for Haiti. This volunteer trip she had students from Miami Coral Gables IB, Mast Academy, Belen, Coral Reef IB and University of Florida students. During the volunteer mission students work at Ecole du Village School in Ill-a-Vache, Haiti and also deliver donations to the orphanage The Works of St. Francis. The wonderful part about donating to Flying High for Haiti is 100% of ALL proceeds raised go directly to the school and teachers making a direct impact on the 135 student Ecole du Village School. The funds raised go toward school supplies, teacher salaries, and upgrading building facilities.
In November, MET students led several initiatives to raise funds for Ecole du Village School. Thanks to No Uniform Day and the selling of bracelets by 2nd grade, we raised $1,090 to buy school and art supplies for Ecole du Village! Additionally, two of our students Bodhi and Kai brought their entire savings to donate. Ines also received donations of diapers, clothes, and toys that were delivered to The Works of St. Francis Orphanage, home to 90 disabled orphans.
We are so very proud of all of our students who came together to donate to this wonderful cause. Ms. Ines was able to deliver so many donations this trip and make a difference in so many children’s lives. Ms. Ines is very passionate about Flying High for Haiti and the students of Ecole du Village, and we are so proud to have our MET students supporting her and Flying High for Haiti! Supporting the growth, development, and education of Ecole du Village students will have an impact that lasts a lifetime. “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” -B.B.
